Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.
Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).
Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.
Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

This diamond's pricetag of $440 puts it firmly in the cheapest group of diamonds that might be used in an engagement ring setting. This diamond's girdle is "Thin to medium", which can have a role in the shine and apparently width of the diamond, as explained in my diamond girdle article. If you are not certain from the photo of this SI1 clarity diamond whether the diamond is eye-clean, you can ask a James Allen sales rep and asking them to personally analyse the diamond and get back to you - they will give you an honest answer. A G color diamond like this one is a great compromise between extreme white pureness and money considerations. If you have got some money but don't want to splurge unnecessarily, this is a sensible color range to do your searching within.
