Quick and Easy Buying Guide
Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.
Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).
Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.
Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.
Set a budget and minimum cut (Premium). Go J color for gold and I/H for white metals. Go searching for SI1/SI2 clarity diamonds at James Allen. Pick a diamond with small/no inclusions. Choose a ring setting and buy it risk-free (60-day returns).

Several diamond sellers will offer an Ideal cut rating of diamond, and these diamonds are almost always (as is the case here) perfect in terms of proportions and the general shape. This diamond's girdle is "Thin to medium", which plays a role in the size and sparkle of the diamond, as written about in my diamond girdle page.
Despite the fact this VS1 clarity diamond will almost certaintly be "eye-clean", if you're aiming to save some money, try checking out SI clarity diamonds. You can manually pick a diamond that appears eye-clean in a photo or when viewed in person. If you are looking at this diamond and considering whether to improve another property of the diamond not related to size, think about downgrading the 1.02 carat size for this diamond to achieve that end. F color diamonds are very colorless - they are included in the pure white diamond range. For $8410, if you've done your shopping properly you should have a nice stone, so make sure you're harsh in your judgement when you're looking at this diamond.
