Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).
Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.
Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

Don't neglect diamond characteristics beside the four Cs, such as girdle thickness - which can be important for reasons discussed in my girdle thickness article. Most consumers won't notice the color in this G color diamond, except if the stone is compared side by side with a diamond with say a D color rating (for multistone rings this is important). This diamond's Ideal cut rating means it has excellent proportions and very good or better polish and symmetry characteristics. If you can view the diamond in person or see zoomed in photos of the diamond (like the photo for this SI1 clarity diamond), this is where the most valuable deals are to be found - finding an SI1 or SI2 stone that is "eye clean" is a rewarding experience that pays off in terms of money saved.
