Quick and Easy Buying Guide

Carat weight: 1 carat = 200 milligrams = 6.5 mm diameter. Doubling weight doesn't double diameter.

Diamond clarity: FL/IF/VVS/VS = super expensive, near perfect. SI = best value if you can check a photo for obvious inclusions (defects).

Color: D-G = colorless, expensive, only if you have money to burn. H-J = best value. Can go lower in gold metal settings than white metal.

Cut: Better cut ratings let more light into a diamond, making it sparkle more. Very important property, don't skimp here.

Set a budget and minimum cut (Premium). Go J color for gold and I/H for white metals. Go searching for SI1/SI2 clarity diamonds at James Allen. Pick a diamond with small/no inclusions. Choose a ring setting and buy it risk-free (60-day returns).

3.01 Carat F Color VS1 Clarity Ideal Cut Round Cut Diamond

F color VS1 clarity - what else could you want? Not much I think, except perhaps a better cost, as there will be an increased cost associated with getting such good qualities in this diamond.

Girdle thickness (for this diamond the girdle is "Slightly thick") can have an significant role in the apparent size of the diamond, as is explained in my article about girdle thickness. Many different companies will offer an Ideal cut diamond cut grading, and these diamonds are usually (as is the case here) perfect with respect to proportions and the general shape. To the unassisted human eye, this F color diamond by itself appears completely white and pure - there isn't a way to detect any color in the diamond using just the naked eye without nearby diamonds, or to identify the differences between it and others within the colorless range.

Spending $91560 on a stone gets you a diamond well above the cut, like this one. Just be sure that you and your partner are happy spending this amount of money on a diamond.

If you are buying blind online, then VS1 clarity is basically the minimumclarity rating you should consider without carrying a significant risk of picking up a diamond with visible inclusions.

By lowering the size of this stone (3.01 carats), you may be able to save a few dollars that will help out with other expenses.
