Three stone diamond ring
Now while I personally prefer the single diamond solitaire ring, I very strongly considered getting a three stone ring when I was shopping around. Many others also seem to like the three stone diamond ring design, which is a little different than the normal solitaire, without being too ‘radical’.
Many jewellers will tell you this story about how the three stones have a special symbolism. Each stone is meant to represent one of the following three things – the past, present, and future of the relationship, or your love.
I’ve also heard a different version – one of the side stones represents attachment in the relationship, and the other represents independence, which is (was) an important issue for some women? Hopefully we’re close enough to equality nowadays for it to be a non-issue!
Three stone diamond rings are also a little more versatile than a single solitaire, if not for any other reason then simply because there are more combinations of rings that you can try. For example, you can have a solitaire or princess cut central stone, with two pear shaped diamonds for the side stones. Princess, oval and round cuts are very popular with three stone diamond rings.
One big plus of three stone diamond rings is cost – you can get three smaller diamonds for less than the price of a single larger diamond. The ring will still look like it has plenty of ‘bling’ on it, because a diamond half the price typically looks more than half as large.
